About Brand
The Grand Sweets

The Grand Sweets and Snacks was founded in 1982 by Mr. G.Natarajan, a first generation entrepreneur, who after a series of business setbacks, started this food business in a small way at Gandhi Nagar, Adyar in Chennai. By capitalizing on his wife Bangaruamma's culinary skills, he dipped into her personal recipies and started making and selling the generic snacks that's traditionally made by the old ladies of the house. Some of these include the sweet Mysore pak, the crunchy savoury mixture, murukkus and thattais. The marketing had a personalized touch when the elderly Brahmin would hand out religious booklets to waiting customers.

As the business grew, he hired more staff, mostly women, and expanded the variety of foods on offer. Grand Sweets' offerings are legendary for their quality and taste. The manner in which the shop got its name is an interesting story. This sweet shop was a small establishment back in the early 80's and one of the customers commented that the sweets tasted really 'grand'. That's how the name 'The Grand Sweets and Snacks' came into being.

Badam Halwa
The taste of the halwa was fine and we liked the fact that it came in a little plastic jar. There was a delay in getting this product as I was told the initial shipping was discarded due to the jar being broken. The taste and texture of the balam halwa was quite different to how we usually taste it in our part of the country, so it was interesting for us to see the different texture and taste. (I guess that is the good point about Delight Foods, that various authentic localized items from all over the country can be tried.)
