Damodar Mithaiwala was originally a doodhwalla. In pre-independent India, the family delivered milk to homes in Dadar. As time went by, the family began to make delicious milk-based sweets. D. Damodar Mithaiwala, formerly known as Dayaram Damodar Mithaiwala, was established in the pre-independence era in the year 1937. Their hard work paid off and the sweets soon became popular. They then diversified to make savouries and steamed snacks called farsan. The enterprising family soon discovered the wonderful taste of Bengali sweets. In their constant effort to innovate, they brought in special cooks from Bengal and got them to make Benagli sweets in Mumbai. There was no looking back and the sweet shop grew to become a brand. Their sweet offerings attract the most varied customers across cities and communities like Maharashtrians, Gujaratis, Parsies, Bengalies and Jewish people as well.
